CONTRACTUAL INFORMATION:

DURATION: Two (2) years with possibility of extension

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:

The United Nations World Food Programme is the winner of the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize.  We are the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters, and the impact of climate change. In Ethiopia, WFP supports the government in countering malnutrition with targeted food support to the most vulnerable, helps communities build resilient lives with sustainable livelihood options and provides school lunches for primary school students.

JOB PURPOSE:
This position will work under the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) funded project titled "Sustainable Diversified Diets for Improved Nutrition in Seqota Declaration Woredas of Ethiopia" with the objective of improving dietary diversity of households with pregnant and breastfeeding women/ girls and children under two years. The duration of the project is two years (2025-2026). The position is based in Addis Ababa with frequent travel to intervention areas. The job holder reports to the Head of Nutrition or alternate and will work closely with the Stunting Prevention Officer. The position will provide support to nutrition programmes and activities that contribute to meeting the nutritional needs of WFP beneficiaries in Ethiopia and provide technical advice and guidance on nutrition strategies, programme design, and implementation. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):

1.    Lead the implementation of nutrition sensitive programmes that work for food availability, accessibility, homestead gardening, livestock management and other livelihood interventions to improve sustainability.
2.    Lead the roll out of Social Behaviour Change (SBC) and capacity building to improve diet diversity and stunting reduction.
3.    Provide technical advice to the Country Office on nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive programme and policy issues including assessment and analysis, the choice of objectives, activities, transfer modalities and commodity choice for nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive programming in line with WFP standards and processes.
4.    Contribute to the development of nutrition projects and activities, plans, and processes, ensuring alignment with wider nutrition policies and strategies.
5.    Provide project management support to specific and defined nutrition projects and activities, ensuring a coordinated approach with wider programmes/projects that complies with WFP standards and procedures. 
6.    Develop and coordinate data gathering and monitoring/assessment systems ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained.
7.    Track and analyse data to provide input into reporting activities and contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reporting on nutrition activities that enables informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
8.    Liaise with implementing partners (internal and external including government counterparts) to monitor ongoing projects, ensuring effective collaboration, timeliness, and efficiency, and highlight potential risks to project delivery.
9.    Provide support for operational partnerships including identification of potential partners, partnership negotiations, and inter-agency collaboration to ensure a strong multi-sectorial response to nutrition in both emergency/non- emergency settings using a collaborative and holistic approach to meeting nutrition needs.
10.    Support the strengthening of national nutrition initiatives, including the development of national government policies related to nutrition and capacity building of WFP staff, partners, and national government to prepare for and respond to nutrition needs for example the production and review of training materials.
11.    Work with staff in procurement, logistics, finance, programme and other units to ensure effective design and delivery of WFP nutrition programming.
12.    Guide more junior staff, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with more complex analysis and queries.
13.    Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs.
14.    Other duties as required.


OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Experience and exposure to implementation of national/international development programmes focusing on stunting reduction in nutrition, agriculture, and resilience activities.

Knowledge of KOICA programmatic policies and experience managing KOICA funded projects is highly desirable.

Experience working in nutrition, livelihood interventions/ food security/ related activities.

Experience identifying and defining nutrition issues/problems within a country.

Ability to work systematically, use initiative, good judgement, and to communicate complex matters both orally and in writing.

Proven ability to lead a team in a multi-cultural environment and achieve common goals.


DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE:

Experience working with governments on developing nutrition policies and/or implementing a nutrition programme (within food security or health).

Experience conducting nutritional assessments, analysing data and drafting recommendations for programme.

Experience working in multiple countries.

Experience working in both emergencies and development contexts

Experience and knowledge of the Ethiopian context.

Experience implementing WFP programmes including in emergency and development operations.

STANDARD MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:    Advanced University degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, Medicine or another relevant field.

Experience:  A minimum of five years of relevant and responsible professional work experience in an international humanitarian organization, specifically in managing and implementing programs related to nutrition, livelihood interventions, food security, and similar activities.

Language:    Fluency (level C) in English and Korean languages.
